SOS Children’s Villages are first responders in cases of emergencies. We respond to humanitarian emergencies with a comprehensive approach that prioritizes the immediate and long-term needs of affected children, families, and communities. In every crisis, we provide essential relief, including unconditional cash transfers to address urgent needs, distribution of hygiene kits, and child protection services to reunite families and ensure children's safety. We also implement critical health and sanitation measures to prevent disease outbreaks. 

 

In cases of unrest and emergencies, children and young people are the most vulnerable. In Nigeria, SOS Children's Villages work as first responders, bringing personalised support to cushion the effect of the unrest. In SOS Children's Villages Nigeria, humanitarian action encompasses a wide range of activities aimed at saving lives, alleviating suffering, and promoting human dignity in the face of crises, disasters, and conflicts. Some of the activities include:

Relief and Response

  •  Search and Rescue: Locating and rescuing people trapped or affected by disasters.
  • Food and Water Distribution: Providing essential supplies to affected populations.
  • Shelter and Housing: Offering temporary or permanent housing solutions.
  • Medical and Health Services: Delivering emergency medical care, vaccinations, and health education.
  • Protection and Safety: Ensuring the safety and security of affected populations, particularly vulnerable groups like women, children, and the elderly.

In Nigeria, SOS Children's Villages has provided relief, support, and hope through several interventions carried out in Borno, Plateau, Lagos, and Edo State to support families and children affected by conflict, unrest, and emergency situations. Some of these activities include

1.    Conditional and unconditional cash transfer to victims affected by flood in Borno, Lagos, and Edo State

2.    Construction of Child-Friendly space for play therapy for children affected by insurgencies in Borno State

3.    Child Protection activities for children affected by insurgencies in Borno State

4.    Construction of toilet facilities and water pump points in two communities in Borno State

5.    Training of Hygiene Promoters in Borno State

6.    Setting up and training of Sanitation team in Borno

7.    Distribution of MHM Kits to females affected by flood in Borno State

8.    Provision of alternative care for three children affected by the herdsmen attack in Plateau State

9.    Donation of medical materials to the NMA to support the medical intervention for children affected by herdsmen attack in Plateau State

10.   Hygiene Promotion activities in Borno, Lagos, and Edo State

11. Provision of food and non-food items to mitigate the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic in Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Borno, Plateau, and FCT
