SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria and CISLAC train journalists to strengthen reporting on alternative care
SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria equipped media professionals across three states with the knowledge to report accurately on alternative care and advocate for stronger child protection systems.
Across the 3 states – Plateau, Edo, and Borno, SOS CVN delivered training sessions for 63 (43M, 20F) media professionals, including journalists from print, television, radio, and online/social media platforms. Conducted in collaboration with its consortium partner, CISLAC, the 3-day activity focused on equipping media personnel and journalists to improve the quality of childcare reportage, particularly in the alternative care system.
The training also helped create proper awareness and provided accurate information to media practitioners on alternative care to improve the media's influence in ensuring a strengthened alternative care framework and advocating for its implementation.
On the third day, CISLAC facilitated sessions to create proper awareness of the critical issues affecting the implementation of the Child Rights Laws (CRLs). This further supported the improvement of the capacity of the media to adequately report on child’s rights-related issues and raise public knowledge on the challenges of the implementation of the law.
