The SOS Children’s Villages Emergency Response Programme in Borno State, north-east Nigeria was established in 2019 and has benefited children and caregivers in Alajiri and Gonidamgari Communities of Bolori Ward, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. The Emergency Response started in 2019 after an initial assessment by SOS Children’s Villages In Nigeria in 2017 that identified significant gaps in childcare following the protracted crisis in Borno State. Alhajeri and Gonidamgari popularly known as Railway Quarters thus represents the early epicentre of Boko Haram, serving as the site where the foundation for extremist movement began in Borno State, Nigeria. To this background, SOS Children's Villages Nigeria (SOSCVN) came in with intervention to bridge the gap identified during community mapping and baseline assessment. SOS Children’s Villages In Nigeria has actively supported children and caregivers across the two communities of Alhajeri and Gonidamgari through various interventions. SOS Children’s Villages In Nigeria launched the Family Strengthening Programs in 2022, offering essential services like healthcare, vocational training, and livelihood support, that empowers and improved the lives of 3017 families. Notably, SOS Children’s Villages In Nigeria has provided a safe environment children are loved and respected in those communities through all it’s programs. The major programs are the Family Strengthening (FS) with 5,031 children and caregivers that benefited, EU partnership, Emergency support, and flood cash support aid to 3000 individuals. The project in this communities focuses on healthcare, education, child protection and family strengthening support.
