Skye programmes

Overview of the Project

SOS Children´s Villages in Nigeria in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH is implementing the Skills Development for Youth Employment – SKYE programme, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project will facilitate short-term, non-formal technical and soft skills training for young people.

These training programmes will help close specific technical- or soft-skills gaps that, once acquired will enable the beneficiary to quickly take up self-employment or wage employment. The target for this will be 500 vulnerable persons between the ages of 15 and 35 years and returnees (Unsafe migration) in selected sectors of the economy. It is believed that creating these pathways for employability through skills development, as well as supporting them with the right equipment to start a business would go a long way in curbing the high rate of unemployment in the state.
