The Stomping for Peace Project

Stomping for peace is a campaign, a global initiative spanning over 131 countries, spearheaded by SOS Children’s Villages. It is aimed at promoting peace and advocating for the rights and well-being of children across the globe, particularly here in Nigeria.

The Nigerian child faces multidimensional challenges that constitute some of the world’s gravest violations of children’s rights. Today, over 39.2% of Nigerian children are engaged in child labour, with 22.9% working in hazardous conditions, while thousands more fall victim to trafficking each year. More than 20 million Nigerian children are out of school, many of them due to conflict, poverty, and instability. Shockingly, 70% of Nigerian children live under varying degrees of poverty, caused by neglect, abandonment, and other harsh socio-economic conditions. The list of challenges these children face goes on.

The campaign creates awareness of the needs of the children, drawing the attention of duty bearers to their responsibilities. Part of the campaign also equips the Nigerian children as key advocates and policy influencers on their rights. Several formats for the campaign are adopted, including advocacy activities to key stakeholders, press briefings, community sensitization, edutainment etc.
